This doesn't look so much blurry to me as very poorly lit. Director Wakefield Poole was sort of making it up as he went along, and only used natural light (and not terribly effectively). But historically it's important, not just as the first major gay feature, but he claims as a precedent to the "porno chic" that is usually credited as starting with Deep Throat. There's almost no dialogue in his films, so you might as well listen to his comment track.
